Welcome to our Backpacking Detours Travel Blog!  We are active lifestyle travel bloggers. My name is Jaynie and I am the Writer and my husband, Scott, is the Photographer. Together we have visited over 20 countries, where we hike, backpack, and drink with the locals!

Scott and I love the idea of Active Lifestyle Travel, and incorporate hiking, biking, kayaking and many other activities into our adventures. If you are looking for tips about where to shop, you won’t find it here.

We have been married for 26 years and have two grown daughters. We live in the mountains of Northern California. Even though we enjoy travel and trip planning, we are lucky to live in such a beautiful area. We have many hiking areas, lakes, and rivers that we frequent often. It is also wine country here and we like to go wine tasting on the weekends.

Scott and I enjoy visiting different countries, and love backpacking, as well as resort travel. Part of our theme of “detour” is we could be staying in a hostel one night, and a five-star the hotel the next! We like to think of this as transitional travel.  Each trip is a new, unique experience and with the lessons we have learned, we try to give insights and tips along the way to help others.

It’s through our blog that you can explore different cultures and hear about the backpacking adventures we have had and some of the lessons learned.  We have recently just finished walking 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago! What’s next for us? In Spring of 2017 we will be going to Peru to hike the Inca trail, and in October of 2017, we will be heading to Ireland!:-) Hopefully you will find a few tips to make your next travel experience easier and more rewarding.

Scott will have some of his more interesting journal entries become blog posts, too.

Feel free to comment and share, we appreciate all feedback.  After all, it’s so much fun to connect and share stories.
